This year's festival is on Saturday, May 21st, from 10 AM to 3 PM in High Point Commons Park - home to the West Seattle Bee Garden. We'll have lots of activities for kids, live music, wonderful food, an incredible street fair, and opportunities to learn more about bees and pollinators!
About the 2016 West Seattle Bee Festival
Here are some of the Bee Festival volunteer opportunities:
Help with poster distribution to local businesses before the festival.
Help set up canopies, tables and chairs for the vendor fair on the day of the festival. 9 – 10 AM.
Label the tables for the vendor fair after the tables are delivered in the morning.
Help put up signs in the morning on the day of the event.
Help at the information tables if people have questions; we can use up to 10 volunteers for 1-hour shifts or 5 volunteers for 2-hour shifts.
Set up and monitor street barricades on the day of the festival – 2-3 volunteers will be needed in the morning, 9:30 – 11 AM, during set-up for the Vendor Fair.
Help with the Honey Run event (a Fun Run) – 5 volunteers are needed for registration (which starts at 9:30), putting up signage and marking the course, handing out water, and directing the runners to stay on the course. The run starts at 10, and some runners may not finish until around noon.
Take down tables, chairs, and canopies after the Vendor Fair is over at 2 PM.
Monitor the waste and recycling during the event; pick up dropped trash before the festival is over (we have trash-grabbing tools).
Clean up and organize waste for pick-up as the event ends.
The West Seattle Bee Festival will be held in High Point Commons Park, which is next to Neighborhood House (at 6400 Sylvan Way SW, Seattle, WA 98126
Our most popular festival events and activities will be back this year. These include our bee-themed Costume Parade for kids and pets (and adults disguised as giant bees or tall flowers). We’ll also have the Honey Run, face painting, a demo at the Bee Enclosure, and tours of the Bee Garden with Puget Sound Beekeepers. Come taste fresh honey!
We'll have some new events as well. Woodland Park Zoo plans to be there with their new "Up Close" pollinator program. Seattle Farm School is hosting a Plant - Seed - Garden Tool Swap. Tilth's Master Composter/Soil Builder program will be there too.
Our annual Vendor and Information Fair, which runs from 11 AM – 2 PM, will be bigger and better than ever! We have invited businesses, community groups and organizations who have strong ties to our community or to bees; who promote health and environmental sustainability; or who offer products and services that share this focus.
Hungry? Patty Pan Grill and Wicked Pies will be there!
