The West Seattle Helpline provides emergency assistance to low-income individuals and families in our community. Our clients are recovering from unexpected hardship; we help prevent evictions, utility shutoffs, and other harmful poverty-related outcomes by offering financial support and covering basic needs while they get back on their feet.
Our Development & Event Internship offers the opportunity to work hands-on with staff, helping raise the funds needed to support our services and educating the community about our impact. This position is an ideal opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student interested in pursuing a career in the nonprofit sector, particularly in development, marketing, or management.
Interns will work directly with the Development Manager and in collaboration with our other staff members and volunteers as projects arise.
We currently have one (1) part-time internship position available. Specific tasks may include:
- Assist with planning and executing of our fall fundraiser, the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Dinner & Auction, and other outreach events
- Support day-to-day fundraising activities including appeals, acknowledgments, and donor cultivation efforts
- Assist with donor database management
- Support management of fundraising and outreach volunteers
- Aid other administrative tasks as needed
- Support Neighbors Helping Neighbors the day of the event, Saturday, October 12, 2019
Interns will work directly with the Development & Communications Manager to design an internship plan that aligns organizational goals with the selected applicant's learning objectives. Specific hours and schedule are flexible. The expected weekly schedule will be between 10-15 hours, and may involve occasional evening and weekend hours. Applications will be reviewed as they are received – desired start is as soon as possible.
Qualifications:
Highly qualified applicants will have some experience with and/or education in fundraising, communications, graphic design, and a background of volunteering or working with low-income, underserved, or at-risk populations, an interest in pursuing a career in the nonprofit or public sectors, and be reliable, responsible, compassionate, and dedicated.
