I feel that I have a trifecta of activities I participate in that are both a creative outlet for me and build community, both within West Seattle and in the general Seattle area.
I participate in the West Seattle Timebank, on the board and even sometimes as a true member.
However, I have two other categories of groups that feed my stomach, my soul, and need for community. Like the timebank, you may participate as frequently as you wish. This makes it nice with busy lives!
The second group I am passionate about is a monthly barter group specifically for items that are handmade, homegrown, and/or homemade. Barter locations move throughout the Seattle area and you will definitely come across other West Seattle timebankers.
The third type of group I participate in is the 'giving community'. You might be familiar with the concept of Buy Nothing? Well, there are similar groups out there as well. These groups help recycle, declutter, and return what you give tenfold. All are participated in via Facebook.
Interested in finding out more about these groups? We can sit down, talk, If you would like to take it a step further, attend a barter event with me. You might be interested if you are a somewhat frugal individual, have a creative or DIY streak to your personality, and like building community. None of these are cash economies or have joining fees.
