Writing Prompt for Goal Setting Workshop
This can be freeform writing or even bullet points illustrating what would be part of “your best year”. What you write is entirely yours—you won’t be turning this in or even reading it aloud in the group. It may prove useful when we do some of the goal setting exercises after the presentation and for your planning and dreaming purposes following the workshop. Besides, it’s fun. You absolutely cannot do it wrong. So please, just do it!
- Think and write about what your next twelve months would look like if they were to be one of the very best years of your life. The events and activities should be reasonable—no basing your entire year on the fact that you won the lottery and quit work, unless of course you have won a lottery or inherited a large sum of money and are possibly considering that as your next course of action. This is all about what you would like more of in your life or less of in your life. Highlighting on those elements that really bring joy and fulfilment to you. This can be a bit of a stretch, but not fantastical! Perhaps you harbor some regrets about some things you have always wanted to do but haven’t quite gotten around to? Is this the year that you finally take a step towards doing that thing? Taking that epic trip that you’ve always wanted to undertake? Reaching a new level of health or wellness? You decide and describe what you and your year look like and how you feel.
If you are still with me and trusting this process and willing to play a bit more…
- List some of the values that are most important to you and consistently show up in your life. Pick ones that speak to you. Here’s a link to a comprehensive list if this seems confusing.
- List what you see as your top strengths. You have many, trust me. This is how you are successfully getting through your life. Here’s an example strengths’ list, if helpful.
- List your skills.
- If you’ve considered it (or find that you want to consider it), what would you say is your meaning and/or purpose in life? Have you thought about why you are here in time right now? What do you think you are supposed to be or do while you are here? What is the unique role that you play? What brings meaning to your life?
- Who or what supports you in life (in the endeavors that you decide to undertake)? Who or what is in your corner or on your team?
