What we will be doing:
Grace Stiller of Nature Stewards will give us a tour of the New Start Community rain garden. This rain garden is part of the New Start Community Garden space adjacent to the New Start High School. This garden was started in 2015 and boasts 53 community garden plots, a greenhouse, and an outdoor teaching space. We will then get our hands dirty and help Grace and other garden members prepare the rain garden for spring. This is a great opportunity for us to see and learn how to maintain an established rain garden.
What to wear:
Please dress for the weather. Wear sturdy waterproof shoes (i.e. hiking/rain boots), warm layers, a hat, a rain jacket or waterproof shell, and water-resistant pants in case it is a typical wet, Pacific Northwest day. In the case that it does rain, it may be wise to bring an extra change of clothes so you can ride home dry and comfortable! Gloves and tools are provided.
What to bring:
Come prepared with plenty of water, and maybe even a thermos for hot drinks to keep you warm and hydrated! We will not be providing snacks at this event, so come prepared with a sack lunch and plenty of water!
