What is a WSTB Buddy?
A Buddy is an experienced and engaged WSTB member who wants to be a Buddy to a new Timebank member and has a good understanding of our Timebank. They are willing to provide time, be accessible for and support the new member during their first few months of membership.
The ideal Buddy is friendly, interpersonally effective, has a professional demeanor, demonstrates patience, and is a positive role model with good communication skills. The estimated time commitment for the Buddy varies, but is approximately six to ten hours for each new member, for about the first three months of new membership.
Goals of the Buddy Program
- To assist in helping new members feel welcomed and connected during their initial encounters/transactions with the Timebank.
- To encourage and assist new members with creating their on-line profile and becoming active in posting 'Requests' and 'Offers' for other members.
Roles of the Buddy
- Introduce yourself and welcome the new member during their first week of membership. Provide them with the “Welcome” package and answer their questions.
- Invite new members to WSTB meetings, remind them of meetings and special events, and show them additional resources as needed.
- Plan to follow up with them on a regular basis for whatever time period is agreed between the two of you (each week or bi-weekly?). Each month the Buddy Coordinator will assign each Buddy a new Timebank member to call.
- A Buddy is not expected to provide training, writing, or act as a computer tech. Other resources are available (ask the Buddy Coordinator or check the website.)
