After-School Tutoring Program for Elementary aged youth, High Point

 

BACKGROUND AND PROGRAM SCOPE

Neighborhood House partners with diverse individuals and families to build community and achieve their goals for health, education and self-sufficiency.  The Neighborhood House Family Center provides a variety of services to the High Point community.

 

The After-School Tutoring Program is designed to contribute to students’ overall academic achievement by providing them with personalized homework assistance. This program focuses on elementary aged students in grades 1 to 5 on Mondays from 3pm-6pm.  There will be three 45 minute sessions every Monday.  Each student will attend one 45 minute session a week.  During the session they will work in small groups or one-on-one with a volunteer tutor.

 

The program will start October 2st and will be held every Monday.  The tutoring program follow the Seattle Public School District’s calendar.  If there is no school, there will be no tutoring.

 

Session 1: 3:00-3:45

Session 2: 4:00-4:45

Session 3: 5:00-5:45

 

The Family Resource Center is looking for volunteers to sign up for one or up to all three sessions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the fulfillment of the Neighborhood House mission* through providing academic assistance, mentorship and encouragement to students.
  • Commit to 1 to 3 hours of service per week
  • Help individual students or small groups of students with homework, reading and skill-building in all academic areas.  Involve students in fun learning activities.  Make learning exciting, relevant and creative.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work with elementary (1st grade to 5th grade) aged youth in a respectful and caring manner
  •      Dependability and patience
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to set and maintain clear boundaries
